Advancing Gerontological Insights for a Healthier Tomorrow

XXX Jubilee International Scientific PhD Conference (27.11.2025; Budapest)

In November 2025, I delivered an oral presentation at the XXX Jubilee International Scientific PhD Conference, organized by the Professors for European Hungary Association in Budapest.

The presentation focused on the awareness of the Újbuda Health Development Office (EFI) and attitudes toward disease prevention among adults aged 60 and over. The study was based on a large-scale questionnaire survey conducted among 500 older residents of District XI, aiming to explore health attitudes, preventive behaviors, and the factors influencing the utilization of preventive health services.

Using descriptive statistics and cluster analysis, the research identified a clear attitude–behavior gap: while older adults generally consider health preservation important, this attitude is not consistently translated into active preventive behavior. The analysis revealed three distinct clusters within the 60+ population, highlighting that attitudes toward prevention are shaped primarily by social status and access to services, rather than by self-rated health alone.

The findings emphasize that older adults are far from a homogeneous group and that prevention strategies must be tailored to different social and behavioral profiles. Improving awareness of Health Development Offices and addressing motivational and structural barriers are key steps toward more effective primary and secondary prevention.
